About Me
I am Dr Susanna Summer, a Chartered Clinical Psychologist based in Sandy, Bedfordshire. I qualified from the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in Leicester in 2009. I completed the two year postgraduate training to become a Systemic Practitioner at Anglia Ruskin University in 2013. I moved to Sandy in 2016 and have been working privately with individuals and families in this area since then.
Qualified Clinical Psychologist
I have worked in the NHS in older adult services for over ten years which has given me experience with a variety of presenting difficulties. In this time I have pursued further advanced training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Internal Family Systems and Emotionally Focussed Therapy for couples. As a Clinical Psychologist I am also trained in other approaches, which gives me a range of techniques and skills to draw on.
Specialist Areas of Expertise
My specialist areas of expertise are working with depression, anxiety and low self-esteem. I am also able to provide high quality therapy for other problems including PTSD, OCD and relationship difficulties. I have additional training and experience working with couples and am an Approved Emotionally Focussed Therapist. A key part of my approach is developing a warm collaborative therapeutic relationship to allow you to honestly explore your difficulties in a safe space. My clients tell me they value my warm understanding and compassionate approach to our conversations. I bring positivity and hope to our consultation, and always believe that there is a way to improve your situation.
Professional Registrations
I am registered with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and workto their codes of conduct and ethical requirements. I attend regular supervision and engage in suitable continuing skill development.
I offer face to face therapy for individuals, couples and families at my office in Sandy, Bedfordshire. I also offer online sessions via Skype or Zoom. I am also now offering a walk and talk therapy, to allow face to face contact which complies with the current social distancing guidelines.
